Copywriting for Yahoo!
With the birth of my first child, it has been difficult to work on design projects as they are more time-consuming. My main bulk of work has been thus focused on copywriting.
In the past months I've been working on many projects for Yahoo!, mainly short writeups to lead readers into individual sections such as Travel. Once in a while I get to do taglines for mini-ads, such as this one for Yahoo! Search Marketing.

PHOTO-MONTAGE BOOKLET

This A5 booklet aims to provide ideas to parents on how they can exercise with their children.
Using a photo-montage style, these ideas are shown throughout the booklet. This approach showcases the different types of activities possible, while at the same time visually inspiring, encouraging and motivating the parents into taking action.
The front and back cover opens up to show a full scene. The inside pages also show different scenes e.g. beach, grass, soil, tarmac, gravel; so as to mimic the different venues for physical activity. Sections of the booklet can be differentiated using this method as well.
Centrespread includes 2 illustrated maps with sticker activity for children. There is also an illustrated section showing exercise warmup poses.

Travel
My submissions for the current theme:

Submission 1:
He's been obsessed since the 1950s with something very blue and white. It's time to relax and enjoy the rest of his life. Like many others, he longs to see the world before his journey ends...
"Ooooo, I'll go see the world, if it's the last thing I'll ever do!"

Submission 2:
Father Mite brings his family for a vacation. He's lost in the chest hair jungle. Kid Mite is whiling time away on his PSP and whining "Are we there yet?"

Submission 3:
Muriel finally gets to go on a trip. Something darker ;)

What is Threadless.com?
Threadless is a community website that allows illustrators/designers from all over the world to submit their designs for critique and scoring (or boo-ing) by like-minded individuals. The well-received submissions will then be printed on tees for sale through the website. A great platform for arty-farties to get a head-start in creating their own tee business!
"Threadless Loves" is a series of competition with various themes for illustrators to work on. Each "Loves" challenge is an opportunity to flex one's design skills and design to a particular challenge. Challenges are sponsored and supported by companies relevant to the idea.

Cool Pets
Website design for a Australian business retailing pet products. I was in charge of coming up with the design interface for the web programmer to code.
The client has categorised his products according to 4 animal groups and we were tasked with using the 4 allocated colours to create a vibrant design, as seen in the wave pattern at page base.
Welcome page with rotating flash banners and news headlines for members and traders.

Inside page with product scroll-down.

SinQSA logo
A pro-bono logo design for a group called SinQSA, which aims to bridge gaps between queer and straight people, increase awareness of and reduce discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.

I merged the idea of a bridge with the 6-colour rainbow, an international symbol for homosexuality. Also played with the gender symbols to replace letters in the group's name.
This is the final logo after the group decided to keep it safe.

Standees for ITEs

Banner, standee and A4 signs for ITE campuses. A pitching job for a statutory board.
As the target audience are teenagers who are largely skeptical of ‘propaganda’, the messages must be put across in a light-hearted way. A mix of retro and punk-rock elements were used to create a style that is non-threatening. A dash of humour was also added by showing the food that are ‘angels’, versus those that are ‘devils’.

My Philosophy
I find communication work challenging, as it takes proper research and thought to zero in on the most suitable way to communicate a message. Many creative agencies provide random copy/designs, which only fulfil the minimal purpose of being there for the client to use. But is the maximum potential reached?
Pixel Hippie aims to do adequate research and digestion, only proposing concepts that I truly believe will work for the client. My double-set of skills in both academic (copywriting) and aesthetics (design) will ensure that each communication solution is well-blended.
Take a look at my portfolio (click on the pics to enlarge them), and do drop me a note if you're keen to offer an opportunity for collaboration.
